What affects the price most

Three factors make the biggest difference in any quote:

• Stump diameter and root spread — the bigger the stump, the longer it takes to grind, and the more cutter wear we go through. A 1m wide eucalyptus stump takes far longer than a 30cm bay stump.
• Access — we have multiple machines, from handheld units up to 86cm wide grinders. Tight backyards, narrow gates, or wide open driveways — we have the right machine to handle it safely and efficiently.
• Multiple stumps — grinding two or more stumps in one visit costs less per stump than two separate jobs, because we only set up once.

Why grinding is almost always cheaper than full removal

Full stump excavation is more expensive and disruptive because you have to pay tip fees to dispose of the stump material. Grinding takes the stump 200 to 300mm below ground level, kills regrowth, and leaves the soil intact. In nearly all residential cases across the Southern Highlands, grinding is the right answer — it’s simpler, faster, and avoids those extra disposal costs entirely.

What about chemical stump killers?

They take 6 to 12 months, often work only partially, and are banned in some council areas. They cost less upfront but in some cases don’t finish the job. We completely grind out the root ball, so you won’t need any poisonous chemicals polluting your yard.
